My name is Santiago Perez, and I’m a first-time homeowner. We moved into our home 6 years ago in Jamaica Plain. It’s a three-unit condo, and the building is over 100 years old, so there were certainly some improvements that we were looking to make.
We’d never owned a car. We didn’t have our kids yet, and so when we started to have our kids and needed a vehicle, we were very interested in an EV. We realized how strong the incentives were—both the federal and Massachusetts—for getting an electric vehicle, which really brought the costs down significantly, and it made it a viable option for us to get an EV.
With a home charger, it’s really straightforward. You come home, you plug it in, you don’t have to worry about it. On occasion, on a longer trip, we’ll use the charger networks, and at the time, there was a really big difference in the reliability of the Tesla Supercharger network versus other types of networks. But they’ve caught up really fast in the intervening 6 years, so today, we use any charger that’s available, and of course, you know, the fact that it’s electric means it’s lower emissions overall.
