A Home Energy Assessment (HEA) is a no‑cost energy evaluation that can be requested by homeowners, renters and landlords. It may be provided by Mass Save or another utility-related organization, depending on which utility(ies) serve the property. See Resources to Evaluate and Fund Your Home Weatherization Needs for more details. The assessment takes about an hour and can be done at your property or virtually. It’s a professional review of how the property uses energy, designed to:
  • Identify where energy is being wasted
  • Recommend improvements to lower energy bills
  • Help you qualify for rebates, incentives, and financing for energy upgrades
A Home Energy Assessment will uncover opportunities for weatherization, the most economical improvement you can make to a living space or building. After the HEA, the home energy professional will explain your options for having weatherization done at a deep discount or possibly free. There is no obligation to move forward with the recommended upgrades. You’ll recieve an energy report explaining your qualification for items such as:
  • Rebates on heat pumps, water heaters, battery-powered lawn equipment
  • Low interest financing for eligible improvements
  • Additional incentives for income‑eligible households
  • If your utility is a municipal light plant (MLP), the report will reflect the MLP’s unique offerings for its customers
